How to change different abrasives in a sandblasting machine

When switching from corundum (alumina) abrasives to steel shot and steel grit abrasives, you do need to clean the equipment and pay attention to the following:

  1. Equipment cleaning
Thorough cleaning: corundum abrasive left in the equipment may affect the performance of steel shot and steel grit, so the equipment needs to be thoroughly cleaned, including the blast cabin, recovery system and piping.
Check for wear and tear: Check the equipment for wear and tear or damage during cleaning and repair or replace if necessary.
  2. Equipment Compatibility
Material compatibility: Ensure that the equipment is made of materials that can withstand the impact of steel shot and grit, especially parts that are prone to wear and tear, such as the inner wall of the blast chamber and the nozzles.
Recycling system: The recycling of steel shot and steel grit is different from corundum, make sure the recycling system is applicable and adjust it if necessary.
  3. Adjustment of operating parameters
Air pressure and flow rate: The density and hardness of steel shot and steel grit are different from corundum, so air pressure and abrasive flow rate need to be adjusted to achieve the best results.
Nozzle size: Depending on the particle size of steel shot and grit, the nozzle may need to be changed.
  4. Safety Protection
Personal protection: the impact of steel shot and steel grit is strong, the operator needs to wear protective equipment, such as protective clothing, gloves, masks and so on.
Equipment protection: Ensure that the equipment protection device is intact, to prevent the abrasive splash injury.
  5. Environmental impact
Dust control: The dust generated by steel shot and steel grit is relatively small, but it is still necessary to ensure the normal operation of the ventilation and dust removal system.
Waste disposal: steel shot and steel grit can be recycled and utilized, and the waste should be properly disposed of in order to meet the requirements of environmental protection.
  6. Testing and commissioning
Trial run: Before formal use, carry out trial run to check the operation of the equipment and the effect of sand blasting.
Parameter optimization: adjust the parameters according to the results of the trial run to ensure that the expected results are achieved.
  7. Maintenance
Regular inspection: check the wear and tear of the equipment regularly and replace the wearing parts in time.
Cleaning and maintenance: Clean the equipment regularly to prevent the accumulation of abrasive materials from affecting the performance.
    Summarize
When switching abrasives, thorough cleaning of the equipment, checking compatibility, adjusting operating parameters, strengthening safety protection, controlling environmental influences, testing and debugging, and regular maintenance are the key steps.
